The centre

“There is no way to happiness, happiness is the way”.

Thich Nhat Hanh

O Sel Ling is a Buddhist retreat centre nestled in the mountains of the Alpujarra in the Granada region, at an altitude of 1600 m, in the southern face of Sierra Nevada, a blessed place that invites stillness and introspection, in a triangle formed by the Veleta and Mulhacén peaks and the Lújar Sierra.

O Sel Ling follows the tradition of Tibetan Buddhism under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and is affiliated to the The Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT), an international non profit organization founded by Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoché.

O Sel Ling means “the place of clear light”, name that His Holiness The Dalai Lama gave to the centre during his visit in 1982.

With several decades of existence, the main purpose of this centre is to encourage the intensive practice of meditation by offering a conducive environment where, by looking inwards, it ́s possible to begin to discover how the mind works and its real nature. In this way, an authentic transformation occurs and the possibility to be of benefit to all beings opens.

The centre offers simple huts for solitary retreat, isolated and scattered over the mountain hill, each hut has a different charm and is equipped with all that is needed for a solitary retreat.

We also organize regular courses and group retreats in a quiet setting. The centre has 3 spacious dorms, a dinning room with a wooden stove, two meditation halls, a library and many places to relax and walk in nature or to simply admire the spectacular views.

Courses and group retreats are a fantastic way to scape the bustle of our daily live, learn something new and take the time to look inwards in order connect with ourselves.
