Atisha retreat hut

Atisha was one of the most important figures in Tibetan Buddhism, born in India, he went to Tibet at the beginning of the XI century. Son of a king, he requested his father to be exempt of his royal obligations and renounced all pleasures of the palace life. Atisha studied under different renowned teachers and became a master in Sutra and Tantra.

Atisha is the author of a brief text called “A Light for the path”, this remarkable text came to be one of the spiritual treasures of the world. In it, Atisha condensed the eighty-four thousand teachings of the Buddha and arranged them in a gradual path to be practised, this compendium is the root text of the Lam Rim tradition (the gradual path), common to the 4 great traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.
