“Mientras perdure el espacio y queden seres, hasta entonces, que yo también permanezca para eliminar el sufrimiento del mundo”

Shantideva

The Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) is an international non profit organization founded in 1975 by Lama Thubten Yeshe (1935-84) and Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche, who is its spiritual director.

The Foundation is devoted to preserving and spreading Mahayana Buddhism worldwide by creating opportunities to listen, reflect, meditate, practice, and actualize the unmistaken teachings of the Buddha and based on that experience spreading the Dharma to sentient being.

“This organization is for the benefit of all beings. Its main purpose is to help develop the wisdom and the knowledge of the Dharma in the human consciousness. This is its sole reason to exist.”
Lama Thubten Yeshe

The FPMT is based on the Gelugpa Buddhist tradition of Lama Tsong Khapa of Tibet as taught by Lama Thubten Yeshe y Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoché and under the guidance of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Currently the organization consists of more than 160 centres, study groups, monasteries, retreat centres, publishing houses and social service projects (hospitals, hospices, schools etc) in over 39 countries.

The centres and projects of the organization are inspired by an attitude of universal responsibility and provide an opportunity for an integrated education through which people’s minds and hearts can be transformed into their highest potential for the benefit of others.

As an organization, the FPMT strives to follow the example and inspiration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in his compassionate service to humanity.
